Eliminate School Stress Through Being Organized

We as parents have had our own experiences of school, and memories of these possibly traumatic times will surface when it’s time for our little ones to go to preschool. Getting organized helps to smooth the process for everyone. Small children thrive on routine as it allows them to assimilate all the new things they are learning. Involving your child in the preparation for preschool helps he or she to become independent. Remember this is the beginning of a long school career and learning these organizational skills will support your child throughout their lives. Here are some ways to help you get organized.

Tip #1. Make A Checklist
This can be done with pictures instead of words to make it fun and to introduce your child to the way things are done at school. Some little children already have very definite ideas about how they want to dress. Allow them to plan beforehand and create the checklist, which includes essential items like shoes and socks. This will give them the joy of participation, and help with the organization.

Tip #2. Have A Designated School Corner
Clothes, schoolbag, shoes, and everything related to school goes in this space. Training your child to do this will at least help you to find things in a hurry. Whether your family is messy or tidy, this habit will give importance and value to school.

Tip #3. Give Yourself Time
When you are rushing, the tension builds up for everyone. If your child is slow or reluctant and difficult, it’s a good idea to start with the evening routine. Make sure that things are sorted out the night before and she or he gets a good night’s sleep. Children live very much in the moment and being forced to think about the future creates anxiety. Half an hour of dedicated attention before sleep time will work wonders for both of you. This time must be free of television, computers, and other distractions. This may be difficult in our busy world, however you will find the benefits of this quiet time for you and your whole family will be worth the effort.

Tip #4. Be Consistent
The most important times for the parent and child is the drop off and pick up. Making these times joyful and smooth will ease tension for you, your child, and the teacher. Trust is learned at an early age, and it is vitally important that you collect your child at the same time. As they become more confident, it becomes possible to introduce more flexibility, as long as your child understands and knows you will always be there.

Tip #5. Nutrition
Children are often tired after spending time at school and their blood sugar may be low at the end of a long day, therefore offering a little healthy snack when you pick them up helps to alleviate bad tempers.

In our busy world these tips may seem difficult, however you will realize that this time is very precious. Your preschool child will soon be racing ahead, eager, confident, and independent. Being organized gives you more fun time together.
