School is almost out for the summer, and now is the time to start planning some fun outdoor games for your summer camp program. Outdoor games are a fun activity for every summer camp program, which is why we have compiled a list of our favorite ones below.

Tip: When you are organizing your summer program, it can be extra fun to have a theme for the whole duration of the camp. For example, maybe you have a space theme where the items and props you use are space-related items. Maybe you choose to have a wild western theme and then everything relates to cowboys. It can make games that the children have played before a little more interesting and fun.

1. Hold A Talent Show

A popular summer camp activity that can be done both outdoors or indoors is a talent show. It’s fun to keep it relaxed and inclusive so that all the children feel they can participate and have roles even if they don’t want to be in the talent show they can help with props or costumes, or assist the talent get ready, etc.

2. Outdoor Relay Games

When it comes to outdoor summer camp games, relay race games done in teams is always fun. Include games like an egg and spoon race, three-legged races, relays, and other interesting field games.

3. Scavenger Hunt

A good scavenger hunt is a necessity for building memories with friends and getting children to go on a mini-adventure. Depending on the ages of the campers, you can determine how difficult to make your scavenger hunt. Make sure you have exciting prizes for everyone at the end.

4. Duster Hockey

All you need for this game is two rolled-up magazines or newspapers as the hockey sticks, and then a paper ball wrapped in tape. Divide your campers into two big teams and get them in two parallel lines on either side of the court. Drop the duster hockey balls and paper hockey sticks into the center of the field/ court. Give each team member a number – use the same numbers for each team. When you call out numbers, the kids with those allotted numbers from each team need to run to grab a hockey stick and hit the ball into their goals to get the points.
